Downtown Syracuse is a delight. It’s a great place to get out and enjoy all that New York has to offer, especially if you’re a fan of charming local shops. With a population of around 140,000, it’s not so big that you become overwhelmed, but it’s still large enough to have plenty of opportunities for entertainment. It’s also got a growing food scene that’s one of the best in the state. New restaurants open up all the time, but there are plenty of old ones you won’t want to miss. After all, there’s typically a reason they’ve been in business for years! One spot that’s been a feature in Syracuse for over 35 years is Pastabilities. It’s the oldest continuously operating restaurant in the downtown area, and it’s every bit as delicious as you’d expect.
Pastabilities started out as a small restaurant in 1982 and has grown into a tremendous success. It’s been featured on the Food Network and is one of the most popular eateries in town.

Pastabilities even has a bakery across the street at Pasta’s Daily Bread.
Shark Man/Google Maps The bakery originally started as a way to supply fresh bread to the restaurant, but quickly became popular enough to need its own location.
One of the most beloved items here is the spicy hot tomato oil. This incredible condiment is often imitated but never replicated, and it can be used on just about anything.
Andrew Miner/Google Maps The “Hot Tom” is so popular that you can even order it on their website to use at home.
There’s plenty of dishes that are just as great even without the famous oil, though. This tasty walnut-basil pesto is every bit as good as it looks.

You can even get wine, spirits, cocktails, or beer to go along with your meal.
