There are some amazing things to discover in Louisiana if you’re willing to lace up your hiking shoes and put on a little bug spray. Rock Falls is one of those places. It’s the perfect destination for a short day hike – the falls are beautiful and surrounded by nature and the hike can be completed in less than an hour. The trail is located in the J. C. “Sonny” Gilbert Wildlife Management Area, a 7,500-acre wildlife area in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana, that’s managed by the State Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

It’s unlikely you’ll encounter big crowds on the trail. It’s easy to miss- to find it, you’ll turn off by a flea market and travel down a long, narrow stretch of gravel road.

You’ll find that the trail itself is well marked and the terrain is not terribly difficult to navigate, although there are a few steep sections of trail.

The hike will take you through the trees on a looped path that might make you think you’re in another state.

Not far into the hike, you’ll find it – Rock Falls. It’s the tallest waterfall in Louisiana, at 17 feet tall.
