The Cleveland Metroparks are full of hidden gems, and today we’re going to take a virtual visit to one that is really hidden. Tucked under a roadway and admittedly hidden when the water isn’t heavily flowing, you might not even know there is a waterfall tucked away in Chippewa Creek Gorge. And yet… when you see it, you might not believe it. Lace up your hiking boots, and prepare to hit the trails, because this easy-to-find waterfall is going to inspire you to spend more time in the great outdoors.

At the entrance of Brecksville Reservation is a waterfall hidden behind a parking lot and under a busy road.

Known as the Chippewa Creek Gorge Scenic Overlook, this pretty spot looks down into a deep ravine where a waterfall forms when the water is flowing plentifully.

The waterfall may not be the biggest in the Cleveland Metroparks, but it’s certainly scenic.

Equally as pretty is the nearby hike, which takes visitors alongside the creek and deeper into the forest.

While many prefer to take the hike in the warmer months, it has an otherworldly beauty in the winter.

And the gorge itself is made magical by the presence of snow.

As is common in the Cleveland Metroparks, there are signs on-site to highlight a bit of local history.

Jeremiah McKee/Google Images As is true throughout the Cleveland Metroparks, this spot has a lot of history in its shale deposits. Erosion began on this landscape during the last ice age, when glaciers and meltwater carved away at the landscape.

But those might be easy to overlook… after all, you’ll be peeking over the literal overlook and admiring a magnificent-but-tiny waterfall!
