The hotel took advantage of a natural spring on the property and provided guests a therapeutic spa experience. Natural spring water was pumped into the hotel for guests could drink and bathe in. The hotel drew the rich and famous, including some notorious gangsters, in the 1930s. The property also bottled and sold mineral water.
