Not many things have been around since 1924, but Abe’s BBQ has! It’s actually the oldest BBQ restaurant in Mississippi. And there’s a reason it’s been around for nearly a century – it serves up some of the best southern eats.
Clarksdale, Mississippi is known for two things – the blues and Abe’s BBQ.

A city staple, it’s been slinging its famous BBQ since 1924, when it opened as Bungalow Inn.
David Jones/Google The original eatery was located on Fourth Street, which, today, is known as Martin Luther King Boulevard.
In 1960, Bungalow Inn was renamed Abe’s BBQ, honoring the founder, Abe Davis.
Bryan H./Four Square Sometime between its opening in 1924 and name change in 1960, Abe’s moved to its present-day locale, which is hard to miss, thanks to lots of signage.
Other than modifying its name and re-locating, Abe’s hasn’t changed much throughout the decades.
Andrea-diletta/Trip Advisor Today, just like in 1924, it’s a laidback eatery that serves up the “South’s most delicious BBQ.”
The tasty ‘cue has received lots of recognition over the years.
Mississippi BBQ Trail/Google Articles about Abe’s, awards, and other accolades are proudly displayed on the walls, alongside historic photos and memorabilia.
Abe’s BBQ selection is pretty basic. (There’s nothing basic about the food, though.)
Melodie K/Trip Advisor Fill up on BBQ beef, BBQ pork, ribs, and sides, like potato salad, beans, and Abe’s signature oil-and-vinegar-dressed Cole slaw.
All the BBQ is delicious, but Abe’s is most known for its pulled pork sandwich.
Raymond Molden/Google Abe’s puts its own spin on the classic sandwich, and it all starts with smoked pork butt, which is thinly-sliced and doused with Abe’s famous Comeback Sauce. Then, it’s placed on a grilled bun and topped with coleslaw.
Abe’s doesn’t just smoke meats, though. It grills them, too.
Ben Zitterkopf/Google In addition to the traditional BBQ options, the menu features burgers, hot dogs, and grilled chicken sandwiches.
Tamales also have a place on the menu, and they are just as much a must-try as the BBQ.
Lexi Netterville/Google The tasty tamales are raved about by patrons and critics alike.
Between its legendary status and even more legendary ‘cue, Abe’s BBQ is “swine dining” at its best.
