There’s plenty of stuff to do indoors, but if you’re an explorer itching for adventure, you may find yourself looking for some outside escapades. Lucky for you, there are so many great parks and trails in Connecticut. Our 139 state parks are such a delight to explore. We may be a small state, but we’ve got mountains, waterfalls, rivers, and places to hike. You’ll never run out of things to do here. One of our favorite fun-filled parks is the beautiful Talcott Mountain State Park in Simsbury. With 574 acres of pristine wilderness, there’s so much to see, and the views here are some of the best in the state.
The state park has a few different trails of varying lengths and difficulties. One thing they all have in common is their stunning beauty.

Probably the most beloved aspect of Talcott Mountain is the Heublin Tower. This observatory deck has quite the history!
Craig R./Wikimedia Commons This majestic building was a summer home for a wealthy couple. The tower was completed in 1914 and boasted the Connecticut’s first residential elevator (which was later removed). Public access was granted in 1974, and the tower now sees more than 130,000 visitors a year.
At 165 feet high, Heublin Tower grants quite the view!

However, you don’t have to climb the tower’s 120 steps to get scenic views in this park.

The four trails range from the 2.5-mile Talcott Mountain Trail (blazed yellow) to the 8.6-mile Metacomet Trail. Choose your path based on your fitness level and hiking experience.

Of course, taking a portion of a trail is also an option! It doesn’t get much better than an afternoon enjoying some of the best hikes in Connecticut.
