Minnesota has many places that even some lifelong Minnesotans have never heard of. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t worth visiting! In fact, the most hidden places often offer up more beauty and tranquility than you can find in many more popular destinations. One such hidden place is Sibley State Park, where you’ll find a unique path up a hill to a big stone tower. Follow the path and climb the tower, and you’ll feel like you’re on the balcony of an old castle. Even better, you’ll have a spectacular view! Read on below to learn more:
Sibley State Park is a lesser-known state park in south-central Minnesota. It’s about 50 miles southwest of St. Cloud, or 100 miles northwest of Minneapolis. It’s a wonderful destination for those looking for some quiet time in nature!

The park is known for its proximity to Lake Andrea, a lovely body of water that many enjoy boating and fishing on. There are also campsites along the park’s lakes, as well as lovely hiking trails.

One trail in particular is popular among park visitors. It’s the Mount Tom Trail, a 3.3-mile loop trail that meanders up a tall hill.

The trail is challenging, rising 200 feet in elevation over its expanse. There are steep areas, and the trail is unpaved. Be sure to wear proper shoes if you intend to do this hike!

As you hike, you’ll rise higher and higher over the surrounding landscape. You’ll pass through large stretches of forests and fields as you climb. Simply put, it is beautiful.

Eventually, a tall stone tower will come into view. Built in the 1930s, it stands atop one of the highest natural points in the area.

Visitors can go right up to the tower, which looks like something from a castle. After your long hike, you may not want to climb any more steps. But it is worth it!

The view from the observation tower deck is nothing short of spectacular. You’ll be able to see over the tops of the mixed forest below you, which stretches for miles in every direction.
