Is there anything better than winter in northern California? We know that the name of our great state typically brings up images of surfing and skateboarding, and there’s certainly lots of that here. But there are plenty of other amazing opportunities for enjoying the outdoors, and we’re not just talking about skiing and snowboarding. There are so many ways to explore our great snowy landscape this season, and we think we’ve found the most unique of them all. This winter coaster in northern California is a one-of-a-kind thrill. You won’t soon forget your ride through the snow-covered mountaintops. As you soar through the trees, you’ll enjoy the best view of Lake Tahoe in the distance. Sounds pretty dreamy, huh? Turn this dream into a reality and make riding this winter coaster in northern California a priority this season.

Just south of Lake Tahoe, you’ll find Heavenly Mountain Resort. This wonderland of winter recreation is most popular for skiing and snowboarding. But the mountain is home to all kinds of other unique ways to play in the snow.

This place boasts everything from snow tubing to scenic gondola rides. You’ll find no shortage of things to keep you busy this winter at Heavenly Mountain. One of the most exciting attractions at this beloved resort is the Ridge Rider Mountain Coaster.

Heavenly Mountain’s Ridge Rider is a relatively recent addition to the resort. It was first opened in June 2016. The gravity-powered mountain coaster has quickly become one of the most iconic summer activities here. However, riding the coaster in wintertime is an entirely new experience that you won’t want to miss!

This unique alpine coaster is one of the most exhilarating ways to take in the breathtaking winter scenery. The coaster will lead you through forest and natural rock formations, giving you outstanding views. Lake Tahoe is such a beautiful area, and you’ll also get a great look at the surrounding mountains.

The coaster itself can accommodate two riders, so you can bring a friend or loved one to enjoy the ride with you. The “driver” of the coaster must be at least 16 years old and be between 54 and 84-inches tall.

HeavenlyMtnResort/YouTube The passenger needs to be at least three years old and over 38" in height. The combined weight of both passengers should not be over 375 pounds.

During the ride, you’ll accelerate around boulders, through the trees, and around two lateral loops. This is an experience that is thrilling, but still easygoing enough to be suitable for those who aren’t fond of extreme sports. Even if you are not typically a fan of roller coasters, you’ll find that this mountain coaster in northern California is a completely different experience than most.
