Cimarron County is quite unique when it comes to Oklahoma counties. It’s not only the most remote place in the state, but it’s also the only county in the U.S. that touches five states, including its own. But the uniqueness doesn’t stop there. It’s also the only county in the state that doesn’t have a stoplight, the only Oklahoma county that is on mountain time, and it’s home to the highest point in the state. It’s known as “No Man’s Land,” but the beauty you find here is unlike any other in the state. Keep scrolling to learn more about this odd-ball (and fascinating) county in the Sooner State.

Cimarron County is the least populated county in the state. It’s located in the most western part of the Panhandle, and it’s the only county in the U.S. that touches five states: Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, and its own, Oklahoma.

Few people ever visit this part of the Sooner State due to its remoteness. Unless you’re traveling through the state or coming here to visit Black Mesa, there isn’t much to do here.

But those who do come are usually surprised due to its unique topography and breathtaking beauty. The county is home to Black Mesa State Park and Black Mesa Nature Preserve.

You can hike to the top of the mesa which is the highest point in the state standing at 4,973 feet above sea level.

The hike takes about four hours, but it’s worth the effort. Along the trail, you’ll pass by a monument showing you which direction the bordering four states are located and their distance.

Plus, you’ll see rock formations, grasslands, mesas, wildlife, and much more. It’s really worthy of a visit.

And, if you’re a fan of night skies, this county is also home to the darkest in the state. In fact, people travel here from all over the country to admire and study the night skies here.
