Welcome to Oenslager Nature Center at Alderfer-Chatfield Wildlife Sanctuary!
Oenslager Nature Center/Google Images Oenslager Nature Center, formerly known as Wolf Creek Environmental Center, is a community gem in the Wadsworth and Sharon Center area of Medina County. Its landscape makes up the breathtaking Alderfer-Chatfield Wildlife Sanctuary, which is open to the public.
This wondrous park is a wildlife sanctuary, so visitors are encouraged to leave behind nothing but footprints.

A chunk of this 248-acre landscape was once a farm, and it was donated to provide wildlife education to the public.

Inside the nature center, displays help visitors do just that.

Nowadays, the tree is, unfortunately, returning to the soil, but it stood for decades in an almost unbelievable state. Its center was hollowed out, and yet its branches sprouted bright green leaves year after year.
The watercolor tree you just saw is based on this one, named the Enchanted Tree. Unfortunately, it fell in 2020, but it was alive and thriving up until then.

There are oodles of discoveries for adults and children alike to make, from sociable turkeys that hang out near the nature center to footprints, scratches, and other signs of wildlife sprinkled throughout the nature preserve.
With five trails totaling close to three miles, the diverse landscape around the nature center is a true treat to explore.
