The teeny-tiny village of Burchard, currently home to 82 people, has a pretty unique claim to fame: it’s the birthplace of silent movie legend Harold Lloyd. Today, you can visit and learn all about the life of this pioneering performer.
Not many people alive today remember the heyday of silent films, but the legacy of these early movies lives on.

Lloyd was born in this unassuming little white house in Burchard in 1893. The boy and his father moved to California in 1910, and soon after, Lloyd began his film career.

The little house still stands and today houses a museum dedicated not only to honoring Lloyd’s life, but to preserving the history of the silent film.

The museum houses memorabilia from Lloyd’s fascinating career and other objects illustrating the history of movies. Even if you aren’t a silent-movie fan, this is quite an interesting, little-known museum.

On your tour of the house, you can even watch one of Harold Lloyd’s films and find out what made his career so special. If you’ve never seen him perform, you’ll no doubt be impressed by his acrobatic stunts.
