One of our favorite things about Maine is just how big it is! You can have a completely different adventure in many parts of the state and each trip might feel like a whole new place. From the mountains to the coast, we love exploring as much as we can. Lately, we’ve been trying to make an effort to get a bit off-the-beaten-path and this state park with a pretty lighthouse in Maine is worth the trip!
While not particularly convenient for everyone in the state, Quoddy Head State Park is one of the most beautiful places to visit.

The park is located in Lubec, which also happens to be the easternmost point in all of America. This geographic location means it’s also the first place in the US to see the sunrise for a good part of the year.

If you’re not much of an early riser, you’ll still want to check out the park for its recognizable red and white striped lighthouse.

We particularly love the coastal trail that leads visitors along the Atlantic Ocean.

The views are incredible, even if you don’t walk along the rocky coast of the ocean. You’ll spot tons of wildlife including Humpback Whales and lots of migratory birds.

This beautiful spot in Washington County isn’t something you’ll visit by mistake, but it’s certainly worth every mile it takes to visit.

Quoddy Head State Park is open during the on-season from May 15th through October 15th. During this time, visitors are welcome from 9 a.m. to sunset every day unless otherwise posted. During the off-season, visitors can explore during the daylight hours, but be mindful that there are likely to be no services open. During the off-season, the weather can be cold and icy, so always be careful before heading out and tell people where you’re going and when you plan to be back.
