The walking tour takes visitors over mostly level, well-lit passages and walkways. It’s suitable for visitors of all fitness levels and ages. However, do keep in mind that visitors are required to climb about 60 steps and, for safety reasons, children are not allowed to be carried on your back during the tour.

During the tour, you’ll learn about the rich history of the cavern including its unique formations and fascinating geology. The Jungle Room, covered in crystalline “vines” across the ceiling, is one of the cave’s most prominent features.

For a more in-depth adventure, California Cavern also offers expedition groups. The Mammoth Cave Expedition requires a bit more effort, as guests can crawl, wriggle, and squirm through natural passages that connect through eight chambers. All tight squeezes are optional to do. All participants must be at least 8 years old.

Feel like an even bigger adventure? The Middle Earth Cave Expedition is it! This group experience explores about 80% of the cavern system. The entire circuit is about a mile long, so it requires some stamina.
