There’s something quite magical about walking through a tree tunnel with trees lined on each side of a pathway or street creating a canopy overhead. Located in the Berkshires town of Stockbridge, Naumkeag estate has a vast landscaped property where you may just find a few tree tunnels. Regardless if you come here to view a tree tunnel, the estate itself is quite an impressive place to explore.

Set in the beautiful Berkshires, Naumkeag is a 44-room Gilded-Age summer home that was built in 1844 for Joseph and Caroline Choate.

The 48-acre estate overlooks both Monument Mountain and the Housatonic River Valley. The Choate family lived in this home from April until November.

The couple’s daughter, Mabel, inherited Naumkeag in 1929. She then began working with a landscape architect to create the beautifully manicured gardens and grounds that draw people from all over the region to see today.

One addition she made is the Blue Steps (pictured here). With trees on each side of the steps, a walk up or down is like walking through a tree tunnel.

Held annually, the Winterlights event at Naumkeag displays thousands of shimmering holiday lights. This tree tunnel looks even more magical all aglow with a rainbow of colors!

The road exiting Naumkeag has a colonnade of tall pine trees on each side. A drive through this tunnel of trees is as magical as walking through one.
