Lehigh Gorge State Park’s also a prime spot for wildlife watching and for admiring its many gorgeous views. A trip to Turn Hole Tunnel is a must, especially if you like sweeping views.

You can reach the former railroad tunnel via the Lehigh Gorge Trail, starting in Jim Thorpe. The trail clocks in at just over three miles, and you can either hike or bike it.

The park’s also the perfect place to chase waterfalls. Unfortunately, one of the area’s most popular waterfalls, Glen Onoko Falls is now off-limits, due to injuries and deaths along the trail that leads to it.

However, you can still visit such gorgeous cascades as Buttermilk Falls. Follow the 1.2-mile Buttermilk Falls and Luke’s Falls Trail.

The scenic trail, which is rated easy and winds through a cave, features a waterfall at both ends, making it well worth the time.

In addition to hiking, you might want to embark on a day of cross-country skiing or snowmobiling in the winter.

Waterfalls Near Me March 10, 2022 Beth Price-Williams Where is Buttermilk Falls in Pennsylvania? Pennsylvania is home to several Buttermilk Falls, both in Western Pennsylvania. Buttermilk Falls Park in Beaver Falls features a cascade of the same name, which sits at the end of a short path that takes between five and 10 minutes to walk. You can view the waterfall from above or from the base. If you’re up for it, you can also walk behind the waterfall. On those hot summer days in Western Pennsylvania, visitors often cool off in the pool into which the waterfall drops. The second Buttermilk Falls is hidden in Buttermilk Falls Natural Area in New Florence, Indiana County, and has a connection to one of the area’s favorite sons: Fred Rogers. Mister Rogers’ grandfather used to own the land on which Buttermilk Falls tumbles. A winding trail – Mister Rogers Pathway – leads to Buttermilk Falls. Before you walk down the stairs to the waterfall, which you can also walk behind, look for two smaller waterfalls that are tiny but mighty. As you make your way along the trail, you’ll likely notice wooden posts, each with a number. Pull up the number to read an inspirational quote from Mister Rogers. The natural area also features picnic tables and bathrooms. Your best bet is to put the address into your GPS as the natural area is hidden in the middle of nowhere. Where can I find the Niagara of Pennsylvania? Did you know that we have our very own Niagara Falls? Yep, Bushkill Falls boasts eight waterfalls that you can reach by one of several trails, which total two miles. The privately-owned park sprawls across 300 acres, brimming with waterfalls, boardwalks, and wooden stairs. Because it is privately owned, the park charges an admission fee and is open seasonally. The fee is charged to help with the upkeep of the park. After exploring the waterfalls, check out the rest of the park, which features a variety of family-friendly activities – mini golf and gem mining, for example.
