When it comes to unique and surprising attractions, Nebraska has a whole lot to offer. This remarkable little town was made to look like it stepped right out of the early 20th century, and it’s a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.

Up near the northeastern corner of Nebraska is the teeny-tiny village of Winnetoon, population 68. Its original claim to fame is its status as the world’s only town with this unique name.

But there’s something else very special about this off-the-beaten-path destination: the historic village and shopping center known as Winnetoon Mall & Post Office.

The idea to revitalize old buildings and remake them into something new and wonderful was envisioned by Winnetoon resident Gayle Neuhaus. She wanted a way to put her beloved little town on the map, so in the late 1990s she and the late Joe Serres set to work building a village that looked like it was right out of the early 20th century.

Thus, the Winnetoon 1910 Boardwalk was born. It became a historical attraction for those who wanted to learn a little more about the history of this part of Nebraska.
