New Jersey is well known for the shore on the Eastern side of the state, but the western “coast” of the Garden State truly does not get the attention it deserves. All along the Delaware River, charming towns and beautiful parks draw in locals looking for great restaurants, great views, and plenty of fresh air. If you want to experience New Jersey’s quieter side, head to Goat Hill Overlook. There’s a short trail that takes you to one of the best views in the whole state – and it’s almost always empty.

Goat Hill Overlook is located off of Route 29, in Lambertville, New Jersey.

No matter what season you choose to visit, you’ll be able to peek out over the river and see for miles. In the winter, this is a great spot to go after a fresh snowfall. It always seems like the snow has dropped like a blanket over the river towns.

Even with fresh snow, the half-mile trail to access the overlook is easy for most hikers. There’s a small bit of elevation gain, but it’s very well maintained.

In nicer weather, it’s a great quick jog to the top that’s sure to make you feel like you’ve exercised “just enough.”

From the top of the trail, you’ll get to experience a view unlike any other in New Jersey. Sit down at the picnic tables and relax - really, take it all in.

Bring binoculars and look for birds, including hawks and eagles, hanging out by the dam across the river. They love to go fishing here.

You can see up and down the Delaware River for miles - but the most interesting views are of New Hope, Pennsylvania, right across the water.

Take some time to explore Goat Hill Overlook this year, and you’ll marvel at this little gem that’s hiding in plain sight.

Visit Goat Hill Overlook on AllTrails to find a map to the trailhead. There are a few parking spaces available, and it rarely fills up.
